KMI REACCH Unloaded on International Space Station after Successful Docking

SpaceX CRS-31 Dragon, containing KMI’s REACCH capture end effector package, successfully docked with the International Space Station at 9:52am EST, just over 12 hours after a successful launch. The REACCH package was unloaded safely in the following hours.

KMI’s REACCH, packaged on board the SpaceX CRS-31 Dragon, successfully launched to the International Space Station. Launch occurred at 9:29pm EST from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. With support from the ISS National Lab’s Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, this mission will demonstrate REACCH’s in-space capabilities, representing a crucial step forward in addressing space debris and enhancing safety for future space exploration.

After live pitches from each team and questions from the judges, KMI was selected as the 2021 Pitch Event winner. This selection continues to show the hard work of the entire team, and the progress possible for innovation in unique locations.

Pre-Seed Round Initial Close

KMI has successfully completed the initial close of their seed round, led by Michigan Rise along with limited, invited investors. This round allows KMI to continue growing the team, progress research, and further connect with our industry, partners, and opportunities. The final close will be completed in early fall with additional regional investors and angels.

KMI was accepted as a Contributing Member to CONFERS, to serve as a private sector stakeholder in the international satellite servicing community. The Consortium for Execution of Rendezvous and Servicing Operations (CONFERS) is an industry-led initiative that aims to leverage best practices from government and industry to research, develop, and publish consensus-derived technical and operations standards for On-Orbit Servicing and related activities.

The active US communications satellite Iridium 33 collides with the derelict Soviet weather satellite Kosmos 2251. Both satellites are completely destroyed, and the resulting debris cloud necessitates many avoidance maneuvers for many satellites, including the ISS, for years to come.
